I left to find that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Growing up poor and being shuffled from one foster home after another, I had dreamed of making it big somehow and moving away from my family. But I never really made it big, and I had found myself missing those that I love so dear. And I had realized that the "pot of gold" was actually the treasure of being with my family and friends. And would stay at grandma and grandpa's house all night. My daughter is about to leave to serve in Afghanistan.

This is a short poem about home sweet home. When life is hard and you feel alone, the happiness, warmth and love felt at home can protect you from the cold harsh outdoors. It feels odd knowing I'll never return. "Home is the place when you go there, they have to take you in." In western society, most people move away from their family of origin. In spite of this fact, it is good to know that the home of your youth is still there. It is nice to know that our parents are still living there, and that your bedroom is just as you left it. This provides a certain of stability as you struggle to build your own house and home. Eventually it is likely that your parents will sell the family home and begin their retirement years.
